Trauma & Addictions Recovery Program (TARP)

The program is open to Veterans, Military Personnel, RCMP and other Police Officers. There may be others who would meet the required criteria. Please contact for further information.

Participants will be encouraged to examine many aspects of life, including present social circles. Individual goal planning will focus on assisting participants to develop and implement ways to practically expand social involvement through extra-curricular activity planning, volunteer activity, and/or participation in complementary therapies.

The program is designed to:

  • Reduce PTSD intrusive and avoidance symptoms;
  • Strengthen relapse prevention skills;
  • Provide the opportunity to recognize and change self-destructive patterns and replace them with healthy patterns of self-expression, self-soothing, and self-care;
  • Provide opportunities to learn more effective coping skills that lead to greater life satisfaction and meaning;
  • Provide opportunities to work through and re-organize traumatic memories in a confidential and supportive environment;
  • Provide opportunities to interact with others who are experiencing similar feelings of hopelessness and despair and to learn from the experience of others as you journey toward healing;
  • Promote the establishment of new leisure time activities, exercise routines, and community/social connections; and,
  • Help in the one development of healthier relationships and maintain an addiction free lifestyle
Program Director: Tamara Goranson, Ph.D., R. Psych. Tamara Goranson is a Registered Psychologist who specializes in addiction and trauma issues. She has worked with veterans, military members, and reservists providing advocacy, consultative, assessment, and therapeutic services. She adheres to a holistic approach to mental health and emotional well-being, emphasizing the connections between mind, body, and spirit in her professional practice.

Therapist: George Bielay, MSc., RMFT George is a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist. His areas of experience include all aspects of addictions and relationship issues, anger management, depression and anxiety. He has worked in several addiction treatment facilities serving a broad population group. He works from a collaborative, goal-oriented perspective, helping people build concrete, realistic solutions for themselves.
